Level 1 (L1) Home Charger

Level 1 home charging is the most basic type of residential EV charging, using an alternating current (AC) power cord. Good news! You can use your existing electricity that powers your home, as this only needs a standard 120-volt outlet, similar to the one you'd use for a toaster or appliance, providing 1.4 kW of power. This type of charger typically comes with the purchase of a hybrid or electric vehicle.

While convenient, level 1 home charging does have slowest charging rate, adding only 3-5 miles of range per hour. It will typically take 3 days to fully charge a electric vehicle. However, it is good for overnight charging at home if you do not have heavy travel needs.

Level 2 (L2) Home Charger

Level 2 home charging is a more powerful option that uses a 240-volt outlet, similar to the one used for a dryer or electric range. This provides significantly faster charging speeds compared to Level 1.

For proper installation, it's crucial to consult with a qualified electrician or certified installer. Your charger provider can likely has certified professionals who can conduct a site assessment and install your charger efficiently and safely.

Level 2 charging can add 25-50 miles of range per hour, making it ideal for daily commuting and longer trips. It will typically take 5-10 hours to fully charge an electric vehicle. This charger is the quickest and most compact solution for charging at home.
